Why BIMMER behaves the way a lighting designer and engineer expects

• It binds your IES data to the light fixture model and returns a Revit family in seconds — saving manufacturers thousands of pounds a year and hundreds of hours building a BIM library.
• Photometric data is linked to the Revit family types and loads straight into the project's Type Properties.
• Four gates check geometry, light-source placement, aim and data before a family reaches you.
• Every result tells you which body the light was attached to — with the IES data, the connector and the electrical load data.
• Separated geometry parts in Revit, each able to carry its own material for rendering.
• No remodelling. Export your original 3D CAD to SAT, pair it with the IES, and that is the whole input.

None of that is a feature that sounded thorough in a planning meeting. It's the list of things I checked by hand, on every product, for a decade.

Work that has been judged

Luminaires designed by Ji Qing have won Best Efficacy at the Lighting for Good Awards 2020 and LVMH's Best Luminaire. The ZUMA light-and-speaker system, developed at Native Design, took both a Red Dot and an iF Design Award in 2022 — following an earlier Red Dot in 2014 and a German Design Award in 2016. Fixtures from those ranges are installed at Stella McCartney London, Christian Dior Milan, the Four Seasons at 10 Trinity Square and Holland Park Villas. Earlier work was shortlisted in the [d]arc awards 2017, in the Architectural category.

Lighting for Good — the programme run by LVMH — was one of the first frameworks to score a luminaire on its whole environmental impact, and an early foundation for what became CIBSE TM65 and TM66.

Ji Qing still designs luminaires today alongside building BIMMER, and has not left the industry it serves.
