Fusion 360 to Revit: create a lighting family with IES

For a Fusion 360 to Revit family workflow, simplify the luminaire into clean solid bodies and export SAT from a Fusion licence that exposes the format. Autodesk documents Fusion support up to ACIS v7; verify the exported units and bodies, then pair the SAT with the correct IES in BIMMER. BIMMER does not directly accept F3D files.

The BIMMER workflow

  1. Create a dedicated BIM export design or component and remove fine/internal manufacturing features.
  2. Keep the aperture/emitting region and useful material bodies clear; confirm all required objects are solids.
  3. If your Fusion licence exposes it, choose File → Export → SAT, then re-open or inspect the export and measure a known dimension.
  4. Upload the SAT with its IES to BIMMER, generate and validate the RFA in Revit.

Fusion 360 to Revit uses the required ACIS boundary

Autodesk’s supported-format documentation states that Fusion handles ACIS up to version 7 and lists SAT export among formats not available to Personal Use. This aligns with BIMMER’s tested import ceiling when the installed licence exposes the exporter, but you should still inspect the actual export rather than treating the application name as proof of compatibility.

Cloud design does not remove the preparation step

Whether the source is native Fusion geometry or an imported STEP, BIM preparation is a modelling decision. Remove internals, preserve the product envelope and material zones, identify the emitting body and check units before creating SAT.

Common failures and what to change

The export includes construction or unwanted components.

Isolate the BIM-ready components/body set in a dedicated design before export.

SAT is not offered in the export list.

Check the Fusion licence: Autodesk excludes SAT export from Personal Use. Use a licence that exposes SAT or another verified ACIS 7-capable intermediary.

An imported STEP has disconnected surfaces.

Repair/stitch it to solids in Fusion or use another healing tool before SAT export.

The file has the wrong scale.

Confirm the source document units and measure the exported SAT before BIMMER.
